Our Heritage & History

Foundation (1980)

  • • Mr E. O Abayomi
  • • Mr P. A Adeniyi
  • • Mr T. O Ogunyale
  • • Miss G. A Benson

Early Years & Relocations

As the permanent site was not ready, seven classrooms from the new ALGC Primary School, Totoro, were allocated for temporary use - six for classes and one serving as both staff common room and Principal's office.

The school later moved to its second temporary location at the former Unity Quarters, Owu Abeokuta, which provided twenty-four classrooms for the growing student population.

Permanent Home & Transformation

On Friday, 13th March 1987, the school made its final move to its current permanent site in the heart of Owu area of Abeokuta with a population of 551 students.

The institution was officially renamed Gateway Secondary School on 14th November 1995 following approval by the Ogun State Government.

Modern Era & Growth

In September 2005, the school underwent disarticulation, creating separate senior and junior secondary sections, each with its own principal. This restructuring marked a new chapter in the school's development, allowing for more specialized educational delivery and administration.

GASSAOSA Formation

The Gateway Secondary School Abeokuta Old Students' Association (GASSAOSA) was founded on 17th December, 1980, with the mission to foster unity and contribute to the educational, social, environmental, structural and economic development of our beloved alma mater.
